Comments

When visitors leave comments on the site we collect the data shown in the comments form, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection.

An anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.

📍Please note: Buddhist café has disabled Gravatar. Gravatar is a third party service that may data mine.

Media

If you upload images to the website, you should avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS), or any Metadata included.

User to the website can download and extract any location data from images on the website. Users can download and copy images.

📍Buddhist café is working on a way to limit this function. We have disabled copy/paste and right click to prevent material being shared without the Author permission. This method works most of the time – not bullet proof.

CaféTV uploads

The rights of video is complicated. Let’s make this simple. Member owns the video. Member may edit and/or remove video. Admin may remove video if it violates ‘Terms of Use’ policy without warning.

Cookies

If you leave a comment on our site you may opt-in to saving your name, email address and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. These cookies will last for one year.

If you visit our login page, we will set a temporary cookie to determine if your browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser.

When you log in, we will also set up several cookies to save your login information and your screen display choices. Login cookies last for two days, and screen options cookies last for a year. If you select “Remember Me”, your login will persist for two weeks. If you log out of your account, the login cookies will be removed.

If you edit or publish an article, an additional cookie will be saved in your browser. This cookie includes no personal data and simply indicates the post ID of the article you just edited. It expires after 1 day.

📍This is usual WordPress policy.

Embedded content from other websites

Articles on this site may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website.

These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracking your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that website.

📍Best not to embed material from other sites. It drains the memory and depending on site it may have snooping functions. Post link is sufficient.

Who we share your data with

If you request a password reset, your IP address will be included in the reset email.

📍Buddhist.café does share any information with third parties, data miners/sellers etc. Buddhist.café does not sell data. Buddhist.café collects email address and username, and login IP address. These are minimum requirements for most sites. Members are welcome to use anonymous usernames.

Buddhist.café newsletter subscription

Your email address is needed to subscribe to email list. This list remains private. Admin can view and manage list. The email list is not shared,  sold nor shown to any party other than Admin. Members can Opt out of receiving newsletters at any time.

System emails and notifications

When members use messenger, post comments, post an article, friend request etc system will send auto generated email notifications.  When there is a reply or comment on member posts or requests of any kind system will auto generate email notification . Messenger notifications can be adjusted.  System emails cannot be disabled.

📍Current Membership plugin does not allow configuring of notifications. We are working on it.

How long we retain your data

If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognize and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.

For users that register on our website (if any), we also store the personal information they provide in their user profile. All users can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except they cannot change their username). Website administrators can see and edit that information when there is account issues.

What rights you have over your data

If you have an account on this site, or have left comments, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.

Request to [email protected] Kindly allow 3-10 days. Remember we are a volunteer community.

Where your data is sent

Visitor comments may be checked through an automated spam detection service.

This site uses security plugins that monitor this function. IP address, username, email address is collected. That is it. However buddhist cafe cannot guarantee that plugins do or do not secretly collect data. This is a WordPress site. Not a custom built site.

This is why buddhist.café will ultimately need to create a custom site. It is hard to judge if a plugin is doing the right thing.

Deleting user account

Members/Users may delete their account at any time in Profile settings. All your account data will be wiped clean from Buddhist.cafe site.

If you experience any issues with deleting your account send email to [email protected]. ‘Delete my account’, in subject. We need to make sure it is you before deletion.

Sometimes profilegrid self delete option doesn’t work. Nevertheless Admin will resolve this promptly Allow 3-10 days for resolution.

📍Remember that the internet is not private. Whatever you post whether it be a comment, image, article etc can be copied in some way.

Buddhist café has done, is doing whatever is possible to stop intellectual property theft. If you have any suggestions please contact us.
